According to the U.S.Department of Agriculture, over 50 million Americans, 0ne in six, struggled with hunger and food insecurity in 2011. This total includes 16.7 million children, or 22.4% of all American children.
The average annual household income for SNAP(food stamp) users was $18,014 in 2011, substantially lower than the nation’s median household income of $50,502 that year.
